|Summary||0004973: Odd definitions - recent posts listing in the info centre|
|Description||Original report (by Antechinus): http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=472210.0|
Been thinking about the recent posts listing in the info centre. Currently it's a definition list. Now according to the w3 dudes, a definition list works like this:
A definition list is a list of terms and corresponding definitions. Definition lists are typically formatted with the term on the left with the definition following on the right or on the next line. The definition text is typically indented with respect to the term.
An alternative format places the term left aligned in a wide margin and the definition on one or more lines to the right of the term. If the DT term does not fit in the DT column (one third of the display area), it may be extended across the page with the DD section moved to the next line, or it may be wrapped onto successive lines of the left hand column.
The opening list tag must be <DL>. It is followed by an optional list header (<LH>caption</LH>) and then by term names (<DT>) and definitions (<DD>). For example:
<DT>Term 1<dd>This is the definition of the first term.
<DT>Term 2<dd>This is the definition of the second term.
The way the recent posts are set up at the moment, the date/time is the <dd> and the rest of it is the <dt>. This means that, according to our recent posts listing, the definition of "Re: Lots of the same error after installing backup by Yoshi2889 (SMF 2.x Support)" is "Today at 11:49:45 PM".
That's an odd definition, is it not?
|Additional Information||Bloc comment: Recent topics are a list of topic's subject IMHO and therefore a normal ul list - but with some addiotnal info about the poster, time and which board. You could even say its a table then lol, but not really, undefined list is the closest.|

|There really seems to be no defining items in the list IMO. I agree with Bloc that it's a UL rather than a DL. If nobody has any reason to not change it, I'll go ahead with the update.|
|Have Fun :P ... don't look to hard for other semantics of DL vs UL vs OL or you will get sucked in to 2.1 ... codename "black hole" :P|

Quite honestly the neatest way of doing it, if you want it all easily readable in actual use, is to make a table out of it. It arguably is tabular data, depending on how you divide it.
