Birthdate is quite easy to add.
1. You need a new language string
$txt['standard_profile_field_bday1'] = 'Birthdate';
$txt['bday1'] = 'Birthdate';
Find TWO instances of
$standard_fields = array('icq', 'msn', 'aim', 'yim', 'location', 'gender', 'website', 'posts', 'warning_status');
$standard_fields = array('icq', 'msn', 'aim', 'yim', 'location', 'gender', 'website', 'posts', 'warning_status', 'bday1');
While I agree it would be very useful to ask for a birthdate upon registration, it's not a field that's easily added, as it requires three fields (year, month, day) instead of the sole one that's currently available.
Since we can't use any of the generic fields available and I don't want to just whack it in, I'm moving this to SMF 2.1.
