|Summary||0002708: Converters Option to import from a database.|
|Description||Looking if this is possible to have the option import from a database containing the forum without the need of the forum files themselves.|
Today I helped at work convert a vbulletin forum to SMF.
They only had the sql dump of the database and not the forum files themselves.
I had to modify the converter .sql file to change the Settings file import to the SMF's Settings.php file.
And hardcoded the database prefix and database name in the sql file.
Then went and tricked the conveter and maybe both path's the same path as the SMF forum and the conversion worked fine.
Little bit time confusing but got the job done.

Only thing about this, is it would be a pita to have to stop the import due to time restrictions and then know where exactly we stopped to start it again.
As well the converter would need a lot of work to correctly read a SQL file and not do partial imports.

I honestly don't see it as a priority either. But, somewhere in the manual/instructions, we could have a little note about the procedure in case one has only a database dump.
The minimum they actually may need is the config file of the other software, or even, a little config file with only the expected variables (which are typically database name and prefix, no more).
